Asia with Kids: Family Travel Guides and Destinations
Asia is one of the parts of the world I keep returning to, both before and after having kids. I first traveled extensively through Asia as a college student, studying abroad in Hong Kong and traveling around the region, and years later I’ve come back with my own family again and again.
Traveling to Asia with kids can feel like a big leap, especially from the U.S. The flights are long, the time change can be rough, and everything from transportation to food may feel unfamiliar at first. But some of our easiest and most memorable family trips have also been here. We’ve traveled through Japan with a baby and later with three kids, returned to Taiwan multiple times, spent weeks exploring South Korea, and traveled with our kids through Vietnam and other parts of the region.
There is no single way to plan a family trip to Asia, and that is part of what makes it so interesting. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam all offer very different experiences. We’ve returned to Seoul several times and spent weeks living in Busan with our three kids, using public transportation almost exclusively. Seoul is huge, energetic, and packed with family-friendly things to do, from palaces and museums to parks, markets, and neighborhoods that are fun to wander. Busan with Kids
Busan feels noticeably different from Seoul, with beaches, coastal scenery, markets and family attractions spread across a much larger city. Taiwan with Kids
Taiwan is one of the places our family keeps returning to, and it has become especially meaningful to us through my husband’s Taiwanese family connections.
